chocolate and chile?

If you have never mixed heat and sweet, you might consider it counterintuitive to add the smoky medium heat of chipotle chiles to chocolate chips, but don’t knock it ‘till you try it.   This delicious snack is a Southwestern classic.  If you are looking to mix things up and add a Don Juan twist to a dish you thought you knew perfectly well, follow the following steps to make it happen.  If you like this combination of flavors, there are plenty of desserts just waiting for that extra kick of spice next time. Let this be your introduction to the world of spicy sweet delicacies.   ¡Provecho! 

thoughts before starting

While mixing the cookie dough, taste it and add more or Chipotle chile depending on your own personal preference!

(But, here at Don Juan Chiles, we always air on the side of adding more chile than less, just in case.) 

Depending on how big your cookies are, this recipe makes roughly one dozen cookies.

what you will need

  • Parchment paper 
  • Spoon, fork, knife 
  • Bowl 
  • Measuring cup 
  • Measuring spoons 

directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit 
  2. In your bowl, add eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, and butter and mix it until it is fluffy. 
  3. Slowly pour in flour, cinnamon, cloves, cocca powderchocolate chips, and all other dry ingredients while still mixing to maintain a soft and wet consistency.  
  4. Roll the cookie dough into balls. 
  5. Put parchment paper on a tray and spray it with a little bit of cooking oil 
  6. Add balls of cookie dough onto the sheet and spread them evenly apart. 
  7. Cook in the oven for 10-15 minutes, checking to make sure that the cookies are rising.  
  8. Remove the tray from the oven and let the cookies cool.
