From Mexico. The name means ‘pepper black berry’ which lends itself well to this dark, reddish/blackish dried chile. Moritas are smoked ripe, red jalapeños, similar to chipotle peppers, but dried for less time so they are softer and maintain rich color and flavor. The subtle smoking process creates a rich, ‘chocolate-tobacco meets savory-sweet fruit’ smack of medium heat. Substitute morita peppers in any chipotle recipe. Delicious!
