Dried chamomile flower has been thought for centuries to contain medicinal properties. It is most often used as an herbal tea to calm the nervous system and the digestive tract. Folk medicine has long used the flower to treat hay fever, muscle spasms, ulcers, gout, colic, inflammation, even hemorrhoids. There have been preliminary studies suggesting chamomile may be used as a dietary supplement to help with generalized anxiety disorder.
