It encourages the horse to keep its head up. The pressure points are on the top of the head, just behind the ears and the corners of the mouth. The cheekpiece can be used with one or two reins. This cheekpiece is most commonly used with two reins, one attached to the large ring and the other to the ring of the gag cheek. This way, the rider can better control the gag effect.
